Chili + lime oven roasted nuts recipe

One thing that has helped me on my quest to better eating is better snacking.

I recently wrote about how to kick that 3pm chocolate bar habit and replace it with something that gives you more sustained energy and nutrients. You can find that here.

This is the same old story, but focusing on nuts. Being a vegetarian, nuts play a very large part of my diet. I need the protein and my body loves the monounsaturated (good) fats they provide.

I often need a little snack in between breakfast and lunch, then lunch and dinner. This is totally normal and okay and as long as you are consuming the right type of snack.

I received a sample of the Lucky Smart Snax range and boy.. it was like Christmas! The range includes a low carb mix, cardio, digestive, power, recovery and womens mix. I was really excited to try these out for my morning/afternoon snacks whilst working.

Each has a different combination of nuts and some have dried cranberries (MY FAVOURITE OMG) and dark chocolate. They also re-seal which is great because I only have a handful every time.

I have 1 x Lucky Smart Snax pack pictured above to give away so keep reading to find out how you could win.

I love love love the chili and lime roasted nuts from Woolworths BUT they are sooo expensive. I decided to make my own so you guys could too. How does that sound? They only took 20 minutes and turned out perfectly, if not better than the store bought ones.

They were the perfect little savory snack and for your chance to win a Lucky Smart Snax pack with 1 x Smart Snax Low Carb, 1 x Smart Snax Womens, 1 x Smart Snax Cardio, 1 x Smart Snax Digestive, 1 x Smart Snax Recovery and 1 x Smart Snax Power; comment below letting me know:

Total Time
  1. 1 tablespoon chilli powder
  2. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  3. 1 tablespoon paprika
  4. 2 tablespoon coconut oil
  5. 2 tablespoon lime juice (1.5 limes)
  6. 2 Packets Lucky Smart Snax or mixed nuts
  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Pre heat oven to 180 deg cel.
  2. Pour mixture into a plastic bag with NO holes
  3. Add the nuts to the bag and coat nuts with the flavouring. I shook gently and massaged the flavor onto all the nuts. It was a sensual moment.
  4. Spread out on a baking paper lined tray and place in the oven for 10-12 minutes. Keep an eye on the nuts to make sure they don’t burn!
  5. Remove, set aside and let cool completely. They taste weird when hot!
  6. Once cooled you can store these in an airtight container for up to 10 days!
  1. This made enough for 1 weeks worth of snacks for 3

I’ve never tried these but I think the Cardio would be my favourite because anything that is good for my heart whilst tasting great certainly gets my vote!

Your recipe sounds delicious, I could munch on a bowl of that easily. I think I like the look of the Power packet, so much deliciousness right there.

      So many yummies.

Ooo I’ll have to try making those as I spend way too much money on pre-flavoured nuts.
But dark chocolate + nuts = heaven. Power pack all the way!

    • Reply Bec November 14, 2014 at 9:53 am

They are expensive to buy. The dark chocolate is amazzzze!

I’m always snacking!! I usually try to have something like nuts, fruit, hummus and veggies, or a homemade granola bar between meals. Lately I’ve been eating plain almonds, but that is getting incredibly boring! I love the sound of the power pack because I also get mad cravings for dark chocolate. Your chili lime ones sound great and I’m pretty sure I already have everything in my cupboard to make them. That’s always a bonus! – B xx

I love when you have everything in the cupboard!!! Winning. I also snack on cucumber, carrot, capsicum and cherry tomatoes along with a handful of nuts and I feel great! Yay for good snacking x

Power would be my favourite as roasted nuts and chocolate feel so naughty so they make a fantastic treat!

    • Reply Bec November 13, 2014 at 7:47 am

      The chocolate in the
      Pack is fantastic too!!!

  • Reply Ross S November 12, 2014 at 8:36 pm

Cardio because I love the combination of the crunch of the nuts, the sweetness of sultanas and blueberries and the tang of the cranberries.

    • Reply Bec November 13, 2014 at 7:47 am

I started picking all the cranberries out and eating them at the start of the packet. Now I’m at the end no cranberries boo! It’s my favourite too πŸ™‚

The womens pack! Because I just recently read that 28g a day of walnuts, almonds and brazil or hazel nuts can help boost your serotonin!

Love the lucky smart snap recovery. My kids love them too, so I am a sharer, my 5 year old son likes to steal my cashews and my 7 year old daughtes sneaks the pepitas…

So the whole family has their own favourite!! Love it.

  • Reply Jess November 12, 2014 at 1:15 pm

Oh definitely the Power pack, because it has dark chocolate in it! I’ve recently started working evenings, and finding that I need a 5pm snack that is healthy and sustains me until dinner break. These would be perfect! πŸ™‚

    • Reply Bec November 12, 2014 at 5:32 pm

That’s exactly what I do! I ate some of the power pack this afternoon! x

Making your own flavoured nuts is definitely cheaper than buying them! And I find it funny there’s no men’s packet or is the answer obvious? lol

    • Reply Bec November 12, 2014 at 5:31 pm

I know! There are some great combinations however; the cardio has dried blueberries!
